Great Reasons to Join Hubpages

Good Writing Pays Off
Are you a good writer, enjoy the process of writing, and cherish the thought of making some money from the whole thing?
Are you a creative thinker who likes a challenge and enjoys learning?
Do you enjoy participating in communities on the Internet?
Though not the only ones, the above three reasons are probably the main ones for joining Hubpages, with the first one being the main reason most people join. While I cannot speak for everyone here in the Hubpages community (and there are more than two million and counting), I can say that my experience is exceeding my expectations and I'm only seven months into my membership. Through this article, I hope to give you enough information to decide whether joining Hubpages is right for you.
FULL DISCLOSURE: The reason I am writing this article is part of the maturation process of being a member of Hubpages. Part of developing a consistent, long-lasting revenue stream, involves using referral trackers. When you get other members to join using a referral tracker, you make a small percentage of revenue from those new members. I am writing this article specifically to link at the bottom of some of my more successful articles so that readers from outside Hubpages will consider joining and use my referral. If you've clicked on this article from one of my other articles and then join Hubpages, I will receive a portion of the revenue you generate (which will not affect your earnings at all!). So, I sincerely hope that after reading this article, you join Hubpages. If you do, I thank you.
These are my reasons for joining Hubpages and mine alone. There are many other hubbers and many other stories. Since I'm guessing most people would like to make some money from their interest in writing, I hope my reasons are motivation to join.
Reason #1: Earning Money
My main reason for joining Hubpages was to earn a little extra money. Having been a professional writer for some time, I know how hard it can be to make money writing, so I had no illusions about what I could make, but knew that some hubbers made as much as $1200/month or more. Since I am both a good writer and a prolific writer, I figured I was as good a candidate as anyone to be successful here. I set a goal of making $50/month within nine months of joining. I'm happy to say that I should achieve that goal even a bit sooner than I thought. And what's really great is that I see potential for so much more.
Reason #2: It's fun
In some ways, joining Hubpages becomes like a game (which is probably why it's so successful). You want to do well. You want your hubberscore to rise. You want your article scores to rise. You check your earnings to see how you did. You check your traffic (I probably check mine 20 times a day). Basically, there are all these number out there to help you measure success. It's fun to track all this stuff. It's fun to participate. It's fun to get feedback on your articles. It's fun to see the fruits of your labor no matter how small the success might be.
Reason #3: Motivation to write
If you're a writer, you've undoubtedly suffered from writer's block. Hubpages adds a whole new level of motivation for the writer. You want to do well. You want people to read what you've written. However, you also want to understand what about writing on the Internet attracts other people. You ask yourself questions like: what types of articles should I write? How can I tweak my writing to increase traffic? How can I title my articles for the most traffic. You write and write and write and when you see some success, you want to write more. This is great for the writer because nothing makes a writer better than practice.
A Few Reasons Why You Shouldn't Join
Reason #1: You'll need to be patient
Earning money at Hubpages is not an overnight thing. It takes time. Understanding why it takes time is part of what will ultimately make you successful here. Too many people spend their time on Hubpages asking why they're not earning more money. You'll need to write often and write well, but you'll also need to understand how to make your hubs appealing to search engine traffic by using keywords and targeted titles (and lots of other stuff). And even then, it's going to take a little time for your hubs to get noticed. Those who are successful here keep it at. Those who are not give up early.
Reason #2: You'll need to work at this
Learning how to be successful at Hubpages is always a work-in-progress. You'll need to write. You'll need to re-write. You'll need to read and understand how this all works. You'll need to do research. Doing so requires some effort. There will probably be frustration involved. It took me some time to figure out how to make my hubs work. It will take you time too. Fortunately, there's so much help available within the site, you'll have to bury your head in the sand to avoid having at least some success.
Reason #3: You'll need to write what people want to read
Many writers want to write whatever they want and are disappointed when people don't read it or they aren't successful. Hubpages is essentially a marketplace for articles (traffic being a form of currency). You can certainly come here and write dog fiction if you want to, but your audience will be limited as well as your success. However, if you have a wide range of interests, you can both write what you want and also tailor some of your writing for others. Thus, you can be both happy and successful. Sure, you can write what you want and only what you want or what's interesting to you, but it won't necessarily translate into interest and traffic.
Give it a try
Look, there are many more reasons to join Hubpages and many reasons why success here can be elusive. I maintain that if you like to write, you will have a good time here. However, to be successful, you have to like to write, do it well, and want to learn how to be successful. If you are willing to do those three things, nothing can stop you.
